Asia Pacific key growth area for American Express Business Travel

American Express Business Travel is contributing a strong half year of new wins up 33 per cent, and sales 36 higher year over year to June 2008 to growth from businesses in the Asia Pacific region.

The company said new clients or those that had extended agreements in the Asia Pacific region included Australia Post in Australia, Invensys in India, Emerson and Symantec in Singapore, and Kraft China.

Vietnam travel industry booms despite tough times

Local travelers are still packing their suitcases during the year-end tourist season despite difficult economic times, according to industry insiders.

Tour companies reported that the number of tourists booked for foreign tours has increased significantly.

Saigontourist said that up to on August 19, the number of tourists planning, to travel on National Day (September 2), had risen 14 percent over the same period last year.

Vietravel also reported a surge of 20 percent, while Fiditour’s figure showed a 22 percent rise, with roughly 3,000 travelers. Continue Reading

Cebu Pacific offers zero international fares

Cebu Pacific (CEB), the country’s leading airline to the ASEAN region, is offering a zero fare international seat sale to welcome the Ber-months of 2008.

The promotional sale will run from August 21-27, 2008 and is valid for travel from September 16 to December 17, 2008.

The promo fare is exclusive of taxes and applicable surcharges. Surcharges range from US$ 46 to US$ 90 depending on the destination.

China’s hotel, catering retail sales up 24.3% in the first seven months

China’s hotel and catering industry saw its retail sales rose 24.3 percent in the first seven months over the same period last year, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said on Friday.

The growth rate was 6.5 percentage points higher than the same period last year, said the MOC on its website.

Retail sales of the country’s hotel and catering industry amounted to 837.49 billion yuan (about 120 billion U.S. dollars) between January and July, accounting for 14 percent of the nation’s total domestic retail sales during the same period. Continue Reading

Local Hotel Uses Eco-Friendly Remodeling Techniques with Power Tools from M&M Tool and Machinery

As part of an on-going company commitment to Environmental Procedures and Green Initiatives, construction crews for the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City recently utilized an increasingly popular woodworking technique to renew their exterior decking at the hotel.

Rather than sanding the wood in place, crews for Little America Hotel removed the boards, checked for any nails or stones embedded in them, ran each board through a planer, chamfered the edges, and then reinstalled the boards. Hudson Crossing Releases Mid-Year Guidance for the Travel Industry

Hudson Crossing announced today that it has released its mid-year guidance for investors in the travel sector contained in the “Travel Investment 2008 Mid-Year Review” report.

Most notably, weakening demand for travel and the associated high cost of oil has not been reflected in the appetite of venture capital investors who remain bullish on the long-term prospects of the online travel value proposition” said Michael W.
