Philippine Tourism Arrivals All time high in 2010

Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Albert Lim expressed joy and satisfaction on Thursday when he received positive reports from the department’s marketing and plans and promotions divisions.

The report said in 2010, inbound tourists to the Philippines reached 3.52 million, thereby, surpassing the 3.3 million earlier set by the department.

“The assumption of a new administration in July ushered in a renewed spirit and confidence in the Philippines as a tourist destination. This has pumped up growth in the second half of 2010 at 21.2 percent than the first semester’s increase at 12.2 percent,” said Lim. Continue Reading

31st International Tourism Fair opens in Madrid

The 31st edition of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) opened here Wednesday at the IFEMA exhibition center.

10,500 exhibiting companies from 166 countries and regions are expected to participate in the exhibition, which will run until January 23. In addition, more than 124,000 professionals and about 7,500 travel journalists are expected to attend the fair.

This year, new exhibiting destinations such as the Republic of the Congo, Zambia and Pakistan, are making their first appearance, while New Zealand, Namibia, Lebanon and South Africa are among the destinations with new official delegations.

The exhibition is only open to industry professionals during the first three days, but the last two see the doors thrown open to the public, who can visit and perhaps discover a new and fascinating destination for their next holidays.

Hong Kong : Chinese New Year parade 2011

The 16th International Chinese New Year Night Parade will be staged on Feb. 3 at Tsim Sha Tsui, featuring a total of 36 floats and performing groups from 11 countries and regions, announced the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) on Tuesday.

Guidelines for Dinagyang Festival 2011 Media accreditation

The Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation, Inc. (IDFI) has set some guidelines for media accreditation to be followed both by the local and national media practitioners in covering the Iloilo Dinagyang Festival 2011 on January 22-23.

Nena Magalona of the Publicity and Media Relations Committee said each media practitioner who wants to cover the event should secure a media accreditation.

She noted that the foundation will only issue accreditation to those practitioners affiliated with legitimate media organization or agency.

Since the deadline of accreditation for local media was supposedly last Monday, the foundation has extended the deadline until January 14 to give way to those media practitioners who failed to secure their accreditation forms. Continue Reading
