Austria, which together with Switzerland will organise the European Football Championship from June 7-29, has issued a kind of Travel Advisory through its Embassy in Islamabad.
“In order to safeguard public security and to prevent possible serious threats, Austria will re-introduce border controls on its international borders (land, water and air) with its EU-neighbouring countries between June 2, 2008 at 0000 hrs until July 1, 2008 at 2400 hrs”, said an Austrian Embassy press release.
“This means that the borders with the neighbouring EU-countries can be crossed only at the official crossing points during the above mentioned period of time.
“Control will be flexible in time and place and will be carried out in such a way that the free flow of transport or traffic will be disturbed as little as possible”, says the release.
However, travellers to or through Austria are requested to take this into account. Carrying a travel document is mandatory irrespective of the aforementioned control, it concluded.
