Cebu Pacific resumes Bangkok flights

CEBU PACIFIC will resume flights to Bangkok starting today with the reopening of the Suvarnabhumi Airport in the Thai capital.

The budget carrier’s Clark to Bangkok flight would also be restored tomorrow, it said in a statement yesterday.

Cebu Pacific said it would resume its Manila to Bangkok service today, with the return flight coming a day after.

“We resume our services to and from Bangkok now that the Suvarnabhumi Airport has reopened,” Cebu Pacific Spokesman Candice A. Iyog said.

Meanwhile, Philippine Airlines (PAL), which flies daily to Bangkok from Manila, said it had no plans yet to resume flights, saying it had not received the go-signal from Thai aviation officials.

“We can only mount flights once we receive the notice to airmen from Bangkok,” PAL Vice-President for Corporate Communications Rolando C. Estabillo said in an interview.

He said the last update the flag carrier had received from Bangkok was that officials expected to clear the terminal of debris by noon today (11 a.m. in Bangkok).

Mr. Estabillo said they would resume flights to Bangkok as soon as they receive the notice.

PAL and Cebu Pacific flights to Bangkok have been canceled since Nov. 26, when anti-government protesters took over Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand’s main gateway, and later, the secondary gateway of Don Muang International Airport, in an attempt to oust the prime minister.

The prime minister has since been removed from office after a Thai court found him and his party guilty of election fraud.

The protesters have left the terminal, but their occupation of the airport had left thousands of travelers stranded in the city.

PAL and Cebu Pacific earlier sent emergency jets to Thailand to bring home stranded Filipino passengers
