Macao and Malacca strengthen tourism and cultural partnership

The government of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the Malacca Historic City Council Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish the Macao Gallery and to promote mutual tourism and culture.

The MOU was signed in Malacca by Chui Sai On, the SAR’s secretary for social affairs and culture, on behalf of the SAR government, and Encik Yusof bin Haji Jantan, mayor of the Malacca Historic City.

Under the deal, the Macao SAR government together with the Malacca Historic City Council will be responsible for the management of the Macao Gallery, which will showcase the arts and culture of Macao as well as the history of Macao and Malacca.

The gallery is situated only 10 minutes away from central Malacca. The building was previously a governmental department of Malacca built in typical Siam style and is part of the local historical heritage. This two-story building has an area of about 3,000 square meters.

The MOU also said that the two sides will share experiences in the fields of education and culture, so as to further deepen the mutual understanding of the historical backgrounds of the two places.
