Thailand’s largest travel and tourism showcase event, the Thailand Tourism Festival 2008 (TTF) opened last night at the IMPACT Exhibition Centre, Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi province.
The festival held in conjunction with Thailand Travel Mart + 2008, will be held from the 5- 8 June.
The event which was organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) focuses on the promotion of domestic travel in Thailand to lay the foundation for further promotion in the international market.
The festival aims to create awareness in the protection of the environment and tourist attractions as national tourism heritage, to instil the preservation of Thai traditions and culture and distribute economic growth to all regions of the country.
A visit to TTF will prove to be a quick and convenient way to get the latest updates on new tourism products and services, as well as to compare prices and shop for the best bargains and attractive deals — all in one stop.
The opening of the TTF was attended by the Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor, Mrs Phornsiri Manoharn , the Minister of Tourism and Sports Weerasak Kowsurat and the Deputy Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat.
The festival aims to show the culture, traditions, uniqueness of stage performances and demonstration of local art, and local lifestyle. The event consists of exhibitions, sales booths, activities and performances to reach out to every group of potential tourists.
Visitors will be treated to a dazzling variety of spectacular cultural performances throughout the festival. This will include performances from the four regions of Thailand the first which was preformed last night was called Khon- which was a traditional Thai masked dance.
The festival will also present cultural showcases by member countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion such as Lao PDR, Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia.
There will also be shows presented by private sector tourism operators as well as fashion shows and games.
