Venere.com – the world’s largest independent hotel reservations website – and Trenitalia – the Italian Railway Transport Company (FS Group) – have launched a co-branded service where Trenitalia visitors can book their accommodation on a co-branded website with direct access from the FS’s and Trenitalia’s homepages and from the ticket booking area. This hotel reservation system is dedicated to the 500 million yearly passengers travelling Italy by train.
Trenitalia.com is the most popular travel website in Italy with 3 million monthly visitors and 500,000 tickets sold. The Trenitalia web site will feature a search box with access to over 24,000 hotels, 8,500 of which are in Italy alone. Venere.com offers the most complete selection of hotels in Italy available online.
Gianfranco Battisti, Commercial Director of the National and International Passenger Division at Trenitalia comments: “Extending our online product is a primary objective for Trenitalia: this partnership with Venere.com is a key milestone in reaching more users and capitalizing on our traffic. Our selection process for finding a suitable accommodation partner attracted important international competitors – a demonstration of the interest that Trenitalia can generate also in the online travel industry.”
“The alliance with Trenitalia is a sign that Venere.com is willing to make its international market leadership visible also on the domestic market,” says Marco Ficarra, CEO at Venere.com. “Online accommodation is growing fast in Europe, and the increasing number of Trenitalia visitors will now have the greatest choice of hotels at very convenient rates on Venere.com.”
Founded in 1995, since 2006 controlled by Private equity fund Advent International, Venere.com is the largest independent hotel reservations provider with over 24,000 hotels and 450,000 hotel reviews.
Wholly owned subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato SpA, Trenitalia is the passengers and goods transport company of the FS Group. One of the main railway companies in Europe, with almost 9,000 trains a day carrying more than 1.5 million passengers, Trenitalia moves about 553 million people and about 80 million tons of goods every year. Its website, with an average 250 thousand visitors a day, is the most visited travel website in Italy.
