Effective Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008 Philippine Airlines (PAL), the Philippines flag carrier, resumes its regular daily service to Bangkok, following the reopening of Suvarnabhumi Airport to commercial flights after a weeklong shutdown.
PAL’s first turnaround flight to Suvarnabhumi after its reopening, PR 730/PR 731, utilizes a wide-body, 264-seater Airbus A340-300 aircraft in order to accommodate spillover passengers who had to defer their trips due to the eight-day closure of Thailand’s main gateway.
Thereafter, from Dec. 7 until further notice, the service reverts to the narrow-body, 156-seater Airbus A320 jet. Read the full story

Philippine Airlines has reported a total comprehensive loss of $113.8 million for the first six months (April to September 2008) of its current fiscal year – principally the result of the unprecedented surge in fuel prices that occurred in the second quarter (July to September) of the fiscal year.
PAL had earlier reported a total comprehensive income of $45.8 million for its first quarter (April to June) but this was overshadowed by the relentless increases in fuel prices in the following quarter, which more than erased all of the first-quarter gains.
The near-doubling of the average price of aviation fuel – from $83.73 per barrel in July-to-September 2007 to $157.03 in the same period in 2008 – impacted heavily on PAL’s expenses and, ultimately, on its bottom line. Read the full story

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is bringing down further its fares. It announced Wednesday that a round-trip fare to Bangkok, Singapore and Jakarta will cost only $118 for ticketing until October 31.
While the reduced rate is valid on all PAL flights between Manila and Bangkok, only specific flights to Singapore (PR 501/PR 502 and PR 505 / PR 506) and Jakarta (PR 535 / PR 536) are covered by the promo.
The Bangkok promo is valid for travel until November 25 while for Singapore and Jakarta, travel must be completed by December 5, 2008.
A companion promotion is also being offered for Mabuhay Class service to Jakarta. For a special rate of $550 on the late-evening and early morning flights PR 535 / PR 536, the traveler enjoys business-class service at a hefty discount over the regular fare. Read the full story

Philippine Airlines will be flying twice daily to Bangkok when it adds three more frequencies to its previous four evening flights on 2 October 2008. PAL will add flights every Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
Flight PR 732 will now depart Manila everyday at 7:30 p.m., arriving in Bangkok at 9:50 p.m. The return service, PR 733, departs Bangkok daily at 11:10 p.m. and lands back in Manila at 3:40 a.m. the following day.
Modern Airbus A320 aircraft, which seats 12 in Mabuhay Class (business) and 144 in Fiesta Class (economy), will continue to fly the evening frequency. Read the full story
