With demand for accreditation around the world increasing, EC3 Global, a subsidiary of the Sustainable Tourism Co-operative Research Centre – the world’s largest provider of travel and tourism research and managers of Green Globe – appointed Hyder Consulting as the first international company to be trained as auditors of the Green Globe Company Standard.
Green Globe is the international Benchmarking and Certification programme for the travel and tourism industry based on the Agenda 21 principles for Sustainable Development endorsed by 182 heads of state at the United Nations Rio Earth Summit in 1992.
This new partnership is a natural extension of the work Hyder Consulting has already undertaken in the area of the environment which includes impact assessments for major tourism developments in countries such as UAE, Bahrain and Qatar.
Hyder Consulting’s Regional Managing Director, Rod Stewart, said: “Sustainable tourism is at the core of Middle East regional development planning, and I am delighted that Hyder Consulting continues to demonstrate its international credentials in this area. We will continue to incorporate sustainability in everything we do and in doing so will help to shape a bright future for the region.”
In July 2007 Novotel Hotel Group and European leader, entered into an agreement with EC3 Globe to have all of their 400 properties certified under the Green Globe Company Standard by 2010.
EC3 CEO, Stewart Moore, commented: “Novotel’s involvement in the Green Globe programme will help set new environmental standards for the hospitality industry and our relationship with Hyder Consulting will provide access to a network of professional and highly skilled Auditors throughout the globe to provide the third party independent verification, a key component of the Green Globe programme.
Hyder Consulting’s recent partnership with Green Globe will help elevate environmental standards to new heights throughout the world for many years to come.
