The newly renovated guest rooms now feature brand new Hyatt Grand Beds, wall coverings, carpet, window treatments, chairs, soft goods, artwork, lighting, and 2 category 6A cables per room. A contemporary color scheme with contrasting warm and cool gray and orange hues is used in various textures throughout the room. Striking black and white photography etched on glass and showcasing unique aspects of the city adorns the walls. In order to complete this extensive renovation, all guest rooms, bathrooms, corridors, and elevator landings were completely stripped down, floor-by-floor, to provide a bare canvas from which the design team could work with to create the transformation.

As an added enhancement, 826 of the hotel’s 924 two-bed guest rooms now feature two queen-size beds instead of double beds. The complete overhaul of guest bathrooms create an elegant yet modern residential aesthetic though the installation of all new toilets, tubs, showers, sinks, vanities, mirrors, fixtures, tile, enhanced lighting, and wall coverings. New wall coverings, carpeting, lighting, ceilings, elevator landing tile, and artwork were also installed in the guest room corridors. Corridor ceilings were removed to allow for the installation of new plumbing supply lines, and brand new HVAC units were installed in every room.

Hyatt Regency Chicago is Green Key certified with a 4-Key rating and is an Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association StayGreen hotel. In addition to the hotel’s current environmental efforts, this renovation provides a positive environmental impact through the installation of:
– digital thermostats with occupancy sensors
– toilets (from 3.6 gallon flush to 1.28 gallon)
– low flow showerheads (2.5 gallon)
– sink aerators (from 2.2 gallons per minute to 1.0 gallon)
– energy efficient lighting – guest rooms & corridors
– 2 new chillers (reduced electricity used in these units by about 50%)

“We listened to our guests. Several aspects of this renovation were incorporated as a direct result of guest feedback,” said Patrick Donelly, general manager. “We are pleased our ownership has made this important investment and are excited to provide our guests an even better experience through innovative, top-of-the line guest room accommodations featuring the latest in design and technology as a result.”

The team who managed this renovation along with the Hyatt Regency Chicago team included:
Indidesign as designer, BABCO Construction, Inc. as general contractor, and RISE as an overall program and strategy consultant.
