This month, Best Western starts construction of the Best Western Hotel Newcity Kagoshima in the Yojiro district of Kagoshima City, Japan, with plans for a soft opening in July 2009 and grand opening by October 2009. The Best Western Hotel Newcity Kagoshima will be the second Best Western accommodation in the Kyushu islands.
The Best Western Hotel Newcity Kagoshima is set in a quiet residential area of Kagoshima-city nearby public institutions such as the prefectural office and the people’s culture hall. Unique to Kagoshima, this 14-floor, 146- room city hotel is designed to fuse European elegance with modern contemporary essence with three room concepts: Earth Floor, Flower Floor, and Sky Floor.
Kagoshima, the administrative, economic, and cultural center of Kagoshima Prefecture, is a castle town dating back to the 14th century. Kagoshima and its suburbs are located in the northeastern part of the Satsuma-hanto Peninsula, and face Kagoshima Bay, which is also called Kinko Bay.
The area around Kagoshima City’s north wharf stages many events, including a fireworks display in which as many as 13,000 sets of fireworks are set off, live concerts, and sunset cruises in the summer. In autumn, the renowned Ohara-matsuri Festival is held here, where some 20,000 people parade dancing through the main streets of the city, and attracting more than 600,000 spectators.
