This month, Suntec Singapore, one of Asia’s leading convention and exhibition centres, is to host a global environmental summit, with a touch of royalty.
H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco will lead a lively discussion on ‘Advancing the Climate Agenda through Policy, Mitigation and Adaptation’ at the annual B4E – Business for the Environment Global Summit from 22 – 23 April 2008. The event, jointly organised by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Global Compact, is expected to attract 1,000 participants. The event will focus on the urgent environmental challenges facing the world today and addressing business-driven solutions for mitigating and adapting to climate change.
Highlights of the summit will include high-level roundtable discussions with H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco; Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, President of the Republic of Maldives; Goran Persson, former Prime Minister of Sweden as well as H.E Abdul-Qader Ba-Jammal, former Prime Minister of Yemen.
“Climate change will affect business and society in fundamental and transformative ways. It represents risks but also opportunities to move the global economy to a Green Economy,” said Mr. Achim Steiner, UN Under-Secretary General and Executive Director of UNEP. “B4E provides an opportunity for corporations; national leaders and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Asia and across the world to be at the forefront of these transformations and to lead by example, showcasing in concrete ways how they are accelerating resource and energy efficiency—how they are building tomorrow’s economy today.”
The B4E is also being held in conjunction with the Champions of the Earth gala dinner that honours laureates from around the world who has spearheaded outstanding initiatives in many different areas from environmental policy to cutting-edge research, with a particular focus on sustainable development and the fight against climate change.
The Summit will be opened by Mr Mah Bow Tan, Singapore’s Minister for National Development.
