The InterContinental Hanoi Westlake is aiming to set a new standard in fitness center appeal throughout Vietnam with the launch of it Health Club membership sales campaign.
Housed in an airy, stand-alone building, the Health Club features an array of Life Fitness-brand equipment imported from the United States, including six treadmills, three cross trainers, two recumbent bikes and two upright bikes — all with integrated LCD.
“It’s easy to make fitness center equipment that looks good, and you see this all over Vietnam,” said Christian Pirodon, the hotel’s general manager. “But we made an investment in some of the best machinery available. The stature of the equipment had to be commensurate with the stature of the hotel.”
Beyond the bikes, treadmills and trainers, the club boasts a full complement of Signature Series Life Fitness strength machines, for chest press, shoulder press, leg curls and other muscle group exercises. For old school aficionados, the club also features the full range of free weights.
The equipment and weights command the first-floor of the well-lit, chalet style building. On the ground floor, a sauna and steam room anchor both the men’s and women’s locker rooms. The lockers themselves are secured by digital technology. The showers are private, and the ambiance is sleek, progressive and inviting.
“We wanted this to be a place where guests and members would linger,” said Pirodon. “It’s first and foremost about physical fitness, but we believe our obligation goes beyond that to overall well-being — hence the obviously attractive ambiance.”
In the Health Club, the InterContinental has fielded a team of professionally trained fitness instructors who’ll both work with guests and patrons on the equipment and lead classes in aerobics, yoga, Pilates, tai chi and stretching at the facility’s studio.
Outside the Health Club, a nearly complete 14-kilometer pedestrian track circles one of Hanoi’s most fabled lakes, West Lake, offering boundless recreational opportunities, for runners and cyclists especially.
Individual memberships to the Health Club cost US$2,500; a couple’s membership costs $3,500. The benefits of membership include access to the hotel’s chic lakeside pool, which is made of natural stone and adorned with stylish cabanas and tropical plants.
