Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival, the first international music and arts festival in the Asia-Pacific region, caps another successful year on its 3rd installment Monday, March 3, on the foothills of Mt. Malasimbo in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro.
Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival
The festival’s five-day affair which started on February 27 ends Monday evening by showcasing another set of local and international artists who will surely entertain and rock the worlds of the festival’s patrons and first-timers. Artists like Unlimited Rise, Mellow Submarine, Late Session II, Toto Delgado, Coco Jam, Mad Professor and Japoy are on the last day’s line up of performers.
The Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival is recognized by the Department of Tourism (DOT) in cooperation with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Since 2011, the proceeds from the festival are used to fund reforestation initiatives and to preserve Filipino tribal culture and ethnic arts of tribes like the Mangyans of Mindoro and T’Boli people of South Cotabato.
The festival is organized annually by a group of individuals who have a passion for music, arts, nature and the Filipino heritage which corresponds to its cornerstones: adventure, environment and eco-cultural tourism.
Staged in the tropical gardens boasting the splendid grass-terraced amphiteatre overlooking the bay which is known as one of “The Most Beautiful Bays in the World”, the festival has become more and more popular to local people and tourists as each year passes.
Aside from the lush scenery, tourists are exposed to the rich culture and heritage of Philippine indigenous communities as they are also invited to perform their local dances, show their handicrafts and teach weaving techniques through workshops.
Festival goers who may not want to miss the last day of Malasimbo Festival may get passes starting at P500. Tickets are available at ticketworld.com.ph. (PNA)
